- In a healthy body where nerves are working correctly, pain is felt instantaneously. The signal from the source of the pain travels rapidly up the spinal column to the thalamus in the brain where the message is finally processed in the cerebral cortex.
- A person can experience both acute and chronic pain. With acute pain, once the injury is healed the body no longer experiences pain. Chronic pain however persists and requires a long period of treatment to manage the pain. Conditions like fibromyalgia and arthritis cause chronic pain, persistent pain.
- Chronic pain can be caused by a change in the normal functioning of the nervous system. This change causes the system to be more sensitive to pain and subsequently changes the brain’s perception of pain and its response to it. Interestingly, memory of pain also influences the degree and way pain is perceived.
- CDB studies with arthritis have shown an improvement in pain when it was applied topically. Other studies have shown that CBD may help reduce the spasticity (spasms) experienced by multiple sclerosis patients and use with patients with chronic pain have shown positive results in reducing pain and inflammation.

- Inflammation in the body happens when the body is exposed to an infection, toxin or experiences an injury. It is the way the body tries to protect itself and start the healing process. Chemicals are released at the infection site first, triggering an immune response from the body. The immune response however is not isolated to the site of the infection of injury but is pervasive through the whole body.
- Antibodies and proteins are released to counteract the “attack on the body”. In acute situations this inflammatory response only lasts a few hours or days. In the case of chronic inflammation, the body remains in a state of alert, mobilized against further infection. Unfortunately, this can negatively affect organs, tissue and joints causing prolonged discomfort and pain. Chronic inflammation has even been thought to affect health issues like cancer and asthma.
- Chronic inflammation can be caused by chemical irritants in the environment, untreated injuries and auto-immune responses, like lupus and arthritis, where the body erroneously attacks itself.
- Signs of acute inflammation include redness, swelling, heat and possible immobility
- Signs of chronic inflammation include fatigue, persistent joint and muscle pain, sores and ulcers which don’t heal, fever and abdominal and chest pain.
- Inflammation can be treated with analgesics – non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), corticosteroids, mineralocorticoids and medicinal plants which include ginger, turmeric and cannabis.

- Cee Be Understanding: Anxiety
- Anxiety is usually experienced on three levels: the physical, the cognitive and the emotional. On a physical level the person may experience a reactive heat, sweating or tingling to a stressor; on the cognitive level it is often a visual or verbal memory or train of thought that causes stress; emotionally it is a combination of the physical reaction and the cognitive associative processing of a situation or internalized memory that causes anxiety.
- According to Nick Wignall, “we mistakenly assume that emotions are things we can do or have direct control over. A key tenant of most theories of mental health (and basic neuroscience) is that we can only change our emotions indirectlyby means of how we choose to think and what we do or the environments we expose ourselves to.” (**9)
- Anxiety is similar to fear in that we feel that associated stress to a perceived threat. However, anxiety is the response to a perceived hypothetical or imagined future threat and can be prolonged, in contrast to the fear response, which subsides as soon as the real danger or stressor is removed.
- Anxiety presents itself in many forms including: panic, dread, angst, nervousness and worry.
- Treatments for anxiety include exposure therapy, cognitive restructuring, mindfulness and relaxation training. Medication is often prescribed in persistent and more severe cases of anxiety. Cannabidiol has undergone clinical trials to ascertain its effect on anxiety and a number of smaller trials have indicated that the symptoms of anxiety have been reduced by CBD.

- Cee Be Doing Quality for your safety
- It is also imperative that you know the source of the cannabidiol you are planning to use. South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) clearly list the reasons why you need to be careful what you consume:
- There are a number of different species of plants that have similar traits to Cannabis, and they can contaminate crops and the end product that is being consumed for medicinal use.
- Cannabis plants can be infected with microbes like fungi and bacteria, these microbiological contaminants will affect the CBD oil efficacy and pose possible health risks to the consumer.
- Just as concerning aflatoxins (growth enhancers), pesticides, fungicides and heavy metals found in the soils and crop sprays are harmful to the end user if they are not detected and land up in the oil.
- It is imperative that the CBD oil is sourced from a reputable supplier whose methodologies for early detection of contaminants and extraction protocols are within the international and local industry standards.
- The source of the oil is as imperative to the process as the manufacturing and packaging to maintain the reproducibility and integrity of the product for the consumer.
- Any producers of cannabidiol who fail to follow the regulations outlined by SAHPRA and international standards are putting the patient’s life and health at risk.
- Cee Be Do products contain cannabidiol (CBD) active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) manufactured from high quality CBD oil in a SAHPRA and GMP accredited facility. The products have undergone stringent quality checks from manufacture to finished product. Our Cee Be Do range of products meets both local and international standards of production.
- It is also imperative that you know the source of the cannabidiol you are planning to use. South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) clearly list the reasons why you need to be careful what you consume:
- Take time out. We live in a fast-paced world where both time and rest have become commodities. In order to lead an overall healthy life, we need to carve out time to relax, to eat well and to exercise.
- Get sufficient sleep. It reduces stress, improves energy and mood and keeps the mind sharp. Taking time to disconnect from the electronics and the constant buzz of electrical energy and white noise is good for your health. Step outside in the sunshine, we all need vitamin D, reconnect with nature, even just for short periods.
- Eat well – It is important to work on eating healthy most of the time. Select fresh food, have fewer complex carbohydrates or processed foods, drink plenty of water. Take supplements if necessary and look after the health of your gut flora. Poor eating habits lead to irregular hormone levels and can cause inflammation and disease within your body.
- Increase foods rich in cannabinoids – look out for hemp, flax and chai seeds, eat walnuts, sardines, anchovies and eggs. Increase the use of high-quality chocolate, cloves, black pepper, Echinacea, broccoli, ginseng and carrots as they have been found to contain cannabinoid-like compounds. Olive oils, tomatoes, leafy greens, fatty fishes and fruits help with the reduction of inflammation and stress in the body.
- Increase your Movement – From the time we are born we build neural connections through movement. Our entire world gets shaped by what we see, hear, touch and feel as we move through it. It is imperative that we keep our bodies moving, especially as we get older. It not only keeps the body and mind healthy but can prolong and enhance brain functioning. Frequent exercise – both cardiovascular and weight training are important for circulation, muscle and bone density. By staying physically fit we are able to reduce and manage stress better with shorter recovery periods from illness and injury. Exercise naturally releases chemical endorphins into the body, leaving the person with a long lasting natural high. So, get out there and get active.
